How Can I Tell if My Car’s Suspension Needs Work?

Your car’s suspension will let you know that it is having problems. It doesn’t matter if you drive a car, light-duty truck, or utility vehicle, you can tell that the suspension is operating correctly by how your vehicle feels. Moose Jaw Truck Shop is going to list the signs of suspension problems below. The sooner you bring your vehicle into our shop the better. Continuing to drive with suspension issues will only damage your suspension further.

Bumpy Ride

One of the most common signs of suspension problems is a bumpy ride. Your struts and shocks are designed to absorb the bumps in the road so you don’t feel them in the passenger cabin. If the struts and shocks are worn, you will experience a bumpier ride than normal. In fact, your ride may be so uncomfortable that you don’t want to drive your automobile.

Diving/Squatting

The struts and shocks also prevent your vehicle from momentum motion. Momentum motion is the natural motion your car’s body would take if it didn’t have the struts and shocks to hold it steady. This includes leaning to the side when you turn corners, diving forward when you stop, and leaning backward when you accelerate.

Low Corner

Another sign of suspension problems is if one of the corners of your automobile is sitting lower than the other corners. You may notice this as you approach your vehicle in a parking lot. The low corner has a broken suspension spring on the wheel. Until you get the spring replaced, your vehicle will continue to sit low on the wheel and will make a clunking noise while you drive.

Steering Difficulties

Suspension problems can also manifest themselves in steering difficulties. Your vehicle’s suspension includes the steering system. You may find that your automobile does not respond to your steering commands or responds more slowly. You may also notice a difference in how your steering wheel feels. It may feel too loose or too tight. No matter the symptom, it’s important to have steering difficulties addressed right away to ensure you can control your automobile.

Veering/Pulling

Finally, the wheels are also a part of your vehicle’s suspension and they need to be aligned properly in order for you to have maximum control over your automobile. If your vehicle is veering or pulling to the right or left, the wheels are not aligned.
